Writing About Purpose and Audience

Discuss that writing has a purpose and audience (e.g., involve students in a discussion of who the audience is for The Farm on the Sea, why the book is being written, and what information has been included so that it will be understood). Provide opportunities for students to write for a variety of purposes and audiences.

Identify the medium used by the artist, his/her intent or message, and the audience.
